About Us
Deanna and Nancy first met each other many years ago in Kennerdell through mutual acquaintances. They were only casual friends at that time and didn't know a lot about each other. Deanna was born and raised in Kennerdell whereas Nancy owned a camp there. Nancy often visited to fish the river and relax on the water. She loved it so much that she eventually moved there year-round and built a beautiful cabin in place of the camp.
It had been a few years when, by coincidence, Nancy and Deanna met again one evening in 2003 at a local karaoke place. After talking for awhile, they discovered they had a lot in common including playing the guitar. They immediately became the best of friends.
After singing together a few times at karaoke, they soon realized that their harmonies blended perfectly and that folks enjoyed listening to them sing. They spent hours along the river in Nancy's garage, plucking out song after song until they were ready to go public. At first they played only for family gatherings and friend's parties, but they soon were ready for more professional gigs and felt they needed a catchy name. They were throwing out ideas one night when Nancy suggested the stage name ‘The Ryver Nymphs'.
The word 'nymph' is used to describe an insect larva found in the river (such as a mayfly nymph). It can also mean a woodland fairy-type creature. The girls agreed that the name was perfect since they both loved to fish and lived in the woods along the Allegheny River. Nancy then suggested changing the 'i' in river to a 'y' to make it more interesting and to go with the word 'nymph'. Hence, the name 'The Ryver Nymphs' was chosen.
